Two labyrinth carvings, possibly from as early as the Bronze Age (1800-1400 BC) were discovered on the wall behind the mill.
Along with witchcraft rituals around the mill and in the valley itself, people come from all over to leave little offerings tied to the trees or set on the rocks. These are called clooties and represent a prayer of healing or perhaps a secret wish. It is said, once the clootie has rotted away the wish will come true. That might explain the occasional tissue tied around a branch!
Notice our ghost orphan Boo hanging amongst the clooties?

Here is a straw bracelet left on a rock shelf. Usually these are made by Wicca witches.
Here you can learn about wicca at the Museum of Witchcraft in the tiny village of Boscastle near where we were.

Then it was off to meander through Rocky Valley, known for its hauntings and white witchcraft practices. Easy to see why. The valley is a magical place to get in touch nature and find peace.

Later, when we got home we realised something dreadful. We left Molly in the haunted valley where she'd been posing in a crack in the wall of the old mill!
We had no choice but to leave her all night, all alone in the dark with spirits lurking about (not that she wasn't one herself!)
Would she be ok or would some creature carry her away to one of the many caves in the valley cliffs? I almost didn't sleep thinking about it, although I did.

Oh no! Look at poor Molly! What ever happened in the night to make her fall off the wall and land face down on this cold slab of stone?

I held my breath and turned her over...

She's ok! A few more smudges but who would notice, she's already grimy after years of eating rats and bugs. She'll be fine.
I'm looking forward to hearing her tell of what took place in the night in haunted Rocky Valley.
